Fontana Varsity repeats as League Champions

Posted Monday, February 23, 2009 by Fohi Manager
The Boys Varsity Soccer Team accomplished an incredible feat on 02/20/2009, when it repeated as Citrus Belt League Champions.  The Steelers won its second consecutive league championship in convincing fashion by boasting an undefeated league record.

The boys wrapped up league play with a 10 win 0 loss and 4 tie record.  The boys' team outscored its opponents by a margin of 39 goals for and only 9 against.  The steelers amassed six shutouts in league play; leading the steelers' defense were Alfonso Cano, Isac Fonseca, Luis Negrete, Ryan Wright, Juan Rodriguez, Erik Hernandez, Leo Monteon, Brian Landaverde, and Luis Angel Valencia.

The Steeler Offensive Machine was pistoned by Saul Diaz, Antonio Salazar, Erick Madrid, Christian Camacho, Johnny Madrid, Mishael Cano, Omar Vasquez, Hugo Cardoza, Brian Lopez, Rigo Chavez, Adrian Perez, and Elias Perez.

Winning league was no easy task; but determination, skill, good work ethic, hope, and a little bit of luck propelled the Steelers past the Redlands Terriers, and the Rialto Knights in the CBL Standings.  Winning league was a culmination of a great year.  The Steelers placed third at the St. Francis/ Burbank Burroughs Tournament (out of 32 teams).  They amassed an amazing Summer League Resume; and concluded the year with a 17 win 3 loss 4 tie overall record.

The Steelers managed to inspire a city, revive school spirit, and inflict soccer fever among their family, friends, and teachers.  2009 was truly a year to remember for Fohi Soccer; people will always remember the Class of 2009 as the class that restored
Steeler Excellence to the program.
