Alfonso Cano- Player of the Month for February

Posted Sunday, March 01, 2009 by Fohi Manager
Junior captain, Alfonso Cano was perhaps one of the Steelers most critical and versatile player this year. The teams' workhorse not only found ways to score, he also was a distinguished defender.

The three year varsity letterman, received many awards this year. To begin, he made the All Citrus Belt League Team for the second year in a row. Secondly, (out of 600 players)he was one of 30 players named to the Burbank Burroughs All Tournament Team in December. Finally, the Junior Midfielder/Defender also made the All CIF Team this year.

Alfonso Cano made important contributions on offense not for being the assist, or goal scorer this year but as being the outstanding transition player who could spark the Steeler Offense or control the Steeler Defense.
Cano played sweeper, stopper, outside fullback, center midfieder, and outside halfback this year because of the unique versatility he brings to the team. He has an impressive array of weapons; his speed, first touch, and ability to hold the ball makes him one of the best Juniors in the Southern California. The Steelers could not have won a second league championship without the efforts and stability Cano gave the Steelers.

In three years on Varsity, Cano has collected 7 goals and 9 assists. He will operate the main furnice for the Steelers next year. Cano carries a 3.3 overall Grade Point Average; he has received the Honor Roll four semesters now; he plans on attending a Division I school post his High School graduation. Cano will narrow his college options between San Diego Sate University, UC Riverside, Occidental College, and Cal State Fullerton within the next year or so. He plays club for Titans FC U-19 Gold Team, and Chivas Intl. U-17.

Congratulations Cano!
